I am sure you must have heard about blood pressure but do you really know what it is? In very simple words, blood pressure is the pressure on the arteriesí walls when blood flows through them. The BP or blood pressure of a person will vary all through the day and night. This pressure is also affected by the level of activity that a person does. In addition, you should also know that this pressure is also influenced by the drink and food that you have consumed.

So how will you know whether you have a normal blood pressure? The answer is to get the pressure checked on a regular basis. One thing you should keep in mind when it comes to the checking of BP and it is you should take the measurement at least twice each time so that you can get an average pressure, which is considered to be an accurate measurement. This kind of check up can be done by a nurse or doctor when you visit a clinic or hospital. If you have never had this kind of check up before then you should not worry about it because it does not cause any pain.

The measurement is carried out at the upper side of a personís arm and the blood pressure generally includes the systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. Systolic is the maximum pressure and diastolic is the minimum pressure. Generally, the BP of a person is expressed as 120/80, where 120 is the systolic pressure and 80 is the diastolic pressure. One thing you should know is that the blood pressure can be measured at other regions of the body, like the ankle. The pressure that is measured will differ from person to person. In fact, if you measure your BP now and then after an hour, you will find that there will be a difference between the two measurements. This is because the pressure will be different from moment to moment.

High blood pressure is one of the most common diseases that people all over the world suffer from. You are not going to believe this but you can suffer from this disorder for many years and not even have a faintest idea about it because hypertension or high blood pressure generally does not have any symptoms. This is the disease that develops over the years and almost every person on the planet is affected by it sooner or later.
