There are scores of daily activities that can become a source of learning. Even an activity like gardening can be converted into a learning experience when you teach your child the name of a gardening implement or names of flowers. There is no better way to learn than the informal way.
You also need to ask him about what he is learning in school. Do not speak about grades as that might put him on the defensive. Teach him essential organizational skills and help him organize papers and assignments properly.
When a child achieves something, such as completing his project on time or getting good marks, celebrate it as an occasion. This gives the child the feeling of being successful. And as the saying goes success begets success.
