Well cared hands and nails are important when relating with other people at work and in social settings if you want to make a good impression. Many people consider that hands will tell you a lot about the person you are dealing with and this can make quite a difference when looking for a job or dating people.

Just think that the first part of your body people notice apart from your face, are your hands. When you meet people you shake hands and if your hands are attractive and healthy and clean this will introduce your entire manner to the person. This is true for both men and women, although men feel self-conscious about going to a beauty parlor for a manicure and some women just cannot afford a professional manicure.

However, there are some treatments we can do ourselves to kelp keep our nails healthy and attractive without having to spend a lot of money in beauty salons.

The first step to take is to buy yourself a well-equipped nail care kit, which must include a good nail file, nail buffer and cuticle oil and even nail cream. These products are basic that you can find in any drug store at a cheap price.

Use the nail file only when you really need to and avoid filing your nails too short as this will weaken them and cause them to break easily. Nail length should be about a quarter of an inch above your finger. When you apply nail polish try and layer it in two or three thin coats instead of one thicker layer as the thinner layers will dry quicker and last longer adding strength to your nails.

Always apply moisturizer and cream on your hands and cuticles, by using good hand lotions and cuticle oil to soften and moisturize this will keep them softer and smoother and will avoid brittle nails and hard skin around the cuticles.

Use only quality products on your hands and nails, so choose mild soaps and lotions. Stay away from products containing alcohol and other elements that may dry your skin and weaken your nails. It is also important you keep your body moisture level high by drinking plenty of water, at least eight glasses a day. Water is healthy for all the body including your nails.

When using a nail buffer while treating your nails do not use it with a back and forth motion for this will heat the nails and weaken them rendering the nail brittle and prone to splitting.

Last but not least, if you have a habit of biting your nails get rid of it as soon as you can. Not only is nail biting bad for your health, as it carries bacteria to your mouth, it will also render your nails and consequently you unattractive.

Follow these tips regularly and you will soon have naturally healthy, strong and beautiful nails which will build up your confidence and image.
