Popular Summer Beach Destinations

By Charles Hopkins Published 04/7/2006 | Travel

There are a lot of beaches around the world from which you can choose your summer destination for this year's vacation. But not all places are the same. There are some clear winners and losers regarding the quality of scenic beauty, local service and cost effectiveness.

This year you can try the Bahamas. It has a number of nice resorts where you can buy accommodation online. And the beaches are perfect for a little sunbathing at this time of the year. A perfect spot to spend your summer vacation in, with or without family. The climate is perfect, with temperature varying between 75 and 80 degrees during the summer break season.

The Cancun area in Mexico and nearby Mayan Riviera are nice places for you to visit this vacation. The beaches are fantastic and as an extra benefit, you get a lot of archaeological stuff to watch out for at the Mayan Riviera. A peaceful coexistence of history and the beach.

If you have decided to head for Asia this year, a very good choice would be Tioman Island in Malaysia. There are a lot of beautiful seaside spots in southeast Asia, but the Tioman Islands really take your breath away. The film South Pacific was shot there. Right from the edge of the lush beaches at Tioman start green forests. You can always hike to the nearby mountains if you feel like it. You will probably like the two hours that it will take you to reach the island by ferry, with lots of dolphins to keep you company. And like most of Southeast Asia, Tioman is surprisingly affordable.

Not unlike Tioman, lush green and bright sand can be found in Kerala, India at rather low expenses. India is a very low cost country and in all probability, if you come to Kerala on a strict budget tour, you will manage to save more dollars than you could hope to save back home during the same period.

From Kerala, you will always have the choice of going to Goa, also on the West Coast of India. Goa has some of the best beaches in the world, nice beach festivals and very cheap booze.

If you are not thinking of traveling around the globe just to find a vacationing place by the seaside, and have already seen most of the known beaches from nearby, you might try out the Turk and Caicos Island. A British dependency, it is only 430 sq. km in area. But the population is sparse. There are only about 20,000 inhabitants in this island. The beaches are absolutely wonderful. There are good resorts in the island with family-friendly facilities. The currency is US dollar, and the service is good value for money.

If you want to settle for Europe, go to Biarritz this summer vacation. Located in Southwestern France on the Bay of Biscay, it is an elegant resort town and one of the best surfing locations in Europe. It was once the favorite vacationing spot for the French royalty.

There is always Hawaii, if you want to stay on American soil. One of the favorite vacation spots for ages, it retains the crowd pull it has always had. In fact, the island's income runs into tens of billions from the tourism industry alone. The beaches have been repeatedly voted to be some of the best in the known world.
