Atlanta Falcons running back Warrick Dunn was named the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year on Friday.
The announcement was made by Payton's widow, Connie, at the Super Bowl media center in Jacksonville, Florida.
Dunn has helped more than 50 single mothers and 150 children with his Home for the Holidays program that provides houses to people in need. The program was inspired by the 1993 death of his mother, who always dreamed of having her own home.
"I'm honored to receive this award," Dunn said. "To be in the same company as him (Walter Payton), I'm honored and thankful."
The 30-year-old Dunn is an eight-year pro and this season recorded 1,106 yards and nine touchdowns on 265 carries. Dunn also caught 29 passes for 293 yards for the Falcons, who lost to Philadelphia in the NFC Championship Game.
Dunn, a former Florida State star, has 6,905 yards rushing and 36 touchdowns in his career for Tampa Bay and Atlanta. He also owns 3,380 receiving yards and 13 TD receptions.
