How to Avoid the Dangers of Losing Weight

Let’s face it. We all want a trim and healthy body for a variety of aesthetic, social and medical reasons. A well-conditioned body, after all, would make many things possible. We would be able to deal with the rigors of everyday life much more easily if we have developed the strength and the resiliency to tackle the physical demands of work and pleasure. We would have the confidence that would allow us to enjoy life to the fullest without worries about how people would view us, and more importantly, without worries about how we should view ourselves. Best of all, our bodies would be more resistant against the dangers of illnesses, injuries and disease that age advancement and other factors may curse upon our existence.

Truly, a universal desire of having an optimal body is present. Though some of us may not have the drive to pursue such a dream, others are moving heaven and earth to achieve the many blessings of a perfectly healthy and an aesthetically beautiful body.

There is a danger, however, that necessary precautions would be lost in the pursuit of such a desire. In the exercise of our passion to attain a perfectly conditioned body, we might happen to neglect the possible ill effects that would tend to imperil our health rather than making it better.

Let’s take a look at some of these dangers so that we may learn how to avoid them.

• Developing deficiencies of certain nutrients. The most popular, though not necessarily the easiest, weight loss program consists of an adjustment in one’s diet. In recent years, a lot of parties have become overnight millionaires by introducing what they call as “revolutionary” diet plans that could make you lose weight in a matter of weeks. Though a good number of these diet programs do bear visible results, the essence is often buried much deeper. By moderating our diet, we stand to take in less of the nutrients required for healthy living. Not all carbohydrates are bad, for example, as some are essential for producing reserve energies for a variety of tasks. A carbohydrate-deficient diet can lead to cancer, osteoporosis, heart disease and brain starvation. Clearly, cutting on what we eat is not the ideal route towards a healthier life. A “balanced” diet is what should be pursued to achieve this goal.

• Undesirable side effects of diet pills. Some people take the obviously easier route to losing weight: diet pills. Though most of them are medically approved, they always come with a warning that they are not for everybody. There are a good number, however, that are circulated even though they are not prescribed by any medical expert. These ill effects include a faster heart rate, nausea, agitation, higher blood pressure levels and even a feeling of paranoia. Consult your physician before including diet pills in your weight loss program. Do your own research as well by reading up on the specific medication you are planning to take. Ask people who have tried the product if they have experienced unwanted results. Sometimes, due diligence can effectively prevent unnecessary complications.

• Exhaustion. Believe it or not, there are some people who completely dismiss the limitations of their bodies just to lose weight at the soonest possible time. They disregard the boundaries of their endurance and strength, resulting in a variety of injuries and medical complication. This should not be the case. We have to work with what we have and with what we could do. For most of us, this could take some time, but things need not be rushed. Patience is an important requisite in losing weight, and good things always come to those who wait.

• Unregulated physical exertion. Though regular exercise is recommended, one should not rush into the more advanced stages immediately upon starting out. The amount of energy we exert should gradually progress. This would condition our bodies to slowly adjust to the new tasks they are made to do. Rushing into things would just make us susceptible to injuries and debilitating fatigue.

Losing weight and maintaining a healthy body is always an ideal goal. However, these should be considered carefully, least we end up worse than how we were before we started.
