Top 10 hiking trails in the United States US for vacations

Hiking has been a favorite adventure activity for the Americans. There are innumerable hiking trails all over the country so you might just find it difficult to decide which ones you should go for. Here is a list of ten top hiking trails that you can find in the United States.

Zion National Park - The park derives its name from an ancient Hebrew word that means a place of refuge or sanctuary. The park spans over an area of 229 square miles and provides a stunning view of the canyons and the towering cliffs. The park right where the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin and Mojave Desert provinces intersect. Within it is a rich diversity of plant and animal life.

Glacier National Park – This park which spreads over millions of acres of forests, alpine meadows and lakes id home to over 70 species of mammals and more than 260 species of birds. This rich and diverse habitat along with few of the most spectacular sceneries the 700 mile hiking trail is one that you can never forget.

Yosemite National Park – Located in the Sierra Nevada, this park is again renowned for some of the most breathtaking views that you can ever see. Declared a National Park in 1890 it harbors numerous meadows, waterfalls and forests. The forests are home to groves of giant sequoias, the world's largest living things.

Appalachian Trail - The Appalachian Trail is one of the longest hiking trails that extends to something like 2,174 miles. The trail takes you through the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. People use the trail either for short one-day or weekend trails and then there are the thru-hikers who hike the entire length in one full season.


Grand Canyon National Park - One of the most amazing creations of nature this National Park in the Colorado Plateau has some of the most amazing views. Along your hike enjoy the turbulent Colorado River as it snakes its way through the valley.

Pacific Crest Trail - Counted among the longest trails the 2,650 mile Pacific Crest Trail runs through the three western states of California, Oregon and Washington. A very popular trail thousands of people hike through it every year.

Continental Divide Trail - The Continental Divide Trail is a 3,100 mile long trail that runs from Mexico to Canada and on its way passes through the five western states of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico.

North Country National Scenic Trail - The North Country National Scenic Trail has all the elements of natural beauty, historic significance, and cultural milieu of the northern states of the country. One of the longest trails (approximately four thousand miles) it has something for everybody – from easy terrains to extremely difficult and challenging treks. Along the trail a hiker gets to experience crystal clear streams thick woods vast prairies and clean lakes.
