Decorating your apartment on a tight budget
If you are on a tight budget and have to watch every penny, you may think that you have to go cheap on your style. You should shoot higher than just making your apartment livable. You want to make it as comfortable and attractive as possible. There are ways to do this with very little money.
If you are looking for a universal piece in your home, then try bed sheets. They can be turned in to anything. They can be cut and trimmed to make anything from curtains to table clothes. You use them for slipcovers or even shower curtains. All you have to do is use a little imagination. You can get any color or pattern or you can add your own style to a plain white sheet. You can find bed sheet almost anywhere and they do not cost a lot at all.
When you are living on your own for the first time, you may need all the help you can get. You may have no furniture, no bed or dishes to get you started. When you are in this situation, you can turn to some places for help. You can go to discount stores to find a lot of what you need. You can find dishes, cups, plates, sheets, and even decorative accessories to furnish your home with. A set of dishes will cost five dollars or less, or a set of glasses can be yours for just a few quarters, or perhaps you will find bedspreads, curtains and many other goodies while you are there.
If you cannot find what you are looking for in the discount stores, you can shop around at garage sales, flea markets and even in the newspaper. There are lots of great deals to be found and you will be surprised at the quality that you will find. With a little cleaning up and maybe refinishing, you can make your own treasure out of it. This just goes to prove that you do not have to spend a lot to have beauty.
Check into the ads that you read in the newspaper. You may be surprised at the values that you will find in these ads. When people sell things in the newspaper, they are usually sold for a lot less than what they are worth. You can really find some great bargains this way. Don’t be afraid to say you will pay less for something than what the advertised price is. Sometimes the advertising in the paper for used furniture and accessories are there, because they are not needed, or the person doesn’t have the space to store such items. You never know, someone might just say ok, or yes, and then you get an even better deal!
Fresh flowers in your room can brighten any dreary boring décor up. Flowers can add some color and charm to an empty room. If you are short on the decorative accessories, you can use flowers as your art.
If you are creative, you can make your own art pieces to hang on the walls or to place around the rooms. You can make anything from vases to picture frames and even your very own artwork. All you need is some paint and something to decorate. You can use anything from pieces of glass to cups and bowls that you can buy at yard sales or at the bargain bin at the grocery store.
