How to use color in a room
Decorating your home can be fun and challenging all at the same time. Choosing the right color for each room can be hard because there are so many different colors to choose from. You can mix colors and fabrics in a room to make a room reflect your personal style.
What colors you like and what you think you want to see on the walls may just be the ‘thing’ your home needs to make you feel more comfortable, and to make it more pleasing to the eye. Choose colors that are not just white, so you can add color to your life even when it is raining or it is snowing outside to give you a warm, happy space to spend time living in.
The first thing that you need to do is choose a style whether it is formal or casual and a theme for the room. Once you have your style and theme for the room, decide on the perfect fabrics that you want to use in your room. If you are not sure what color of paint to choose for your room, you can take any color out of the fabrics that you picked and pull a color from there.
You can pick a neutral color from the fabric for the color on the walls. If you want, you can use a pattern for the walls or you can stay with the solid color. You may want to use the brightest colors from the fabric for accessories and accents like pictures on the walls, accents around the room and decorative pillows. Don’t be afraid of using bold colors if you are using a neutral background you will find the overall look very appealing to the eye.
Once you have your anchor color, you will be able to choose the other important things in the room like your couch, chairs, rugs, and other furniture. These items can now be brought it to complete your room and its theme. You can look for pieces that match your wall color or you can match your wall color around your furniture. My advice would be to match your wall color to the existing furniture in the room. It is a lot cheaper to repaint than it is to go out and replace your furniture.
Some tips for decorating your room with color are to repeat the same colors in at least three places in the room. Find decorative art that accents your furniture and your wall colors. You can pull the whole room together with a few main pieces in the room. Remember you don’t have to spend a lot of money on any one item for your home, think inexpensive matching pieces that will pull the whole look in your home together for one that you will be proud of.
If you are someone who would rather have a neutral color on the walls, you can add some bold colors around the room in the form of pillows, window treatments, and decorations around the room. You do not have to have a lot of color in order to make your room look special. As long as the room is what you want and it is comfortable for you, you will have made the best possible design for you and your room.
