GLASGOW (Reuters) - Rangers cut the gap at the top of the Scottish Premier League to 13 points on Saturday with a win over Hibernian whose Edinburgh rivals Hearts announced that captain Steven Pressley had left the club.
First-half goals from Dado Prso, Libor Sionko and captain Barry Ferguson saw Rangers to a comfortable 3-0 win.
"It was a brilliant first half and our best performance of the season," Rangers manager Paul Le Guen told BBC Radio.
Croatian striker Prso grabbed the first goal from a Nacho Novo pass on 15 minutes before Czech Republic front man Libor Sionko slotted home the second.
Before the interval captain Barry Ferguson back headed the third.
The misery piled up for Hibs in the second half when Ivan Sproule was sent off for his second bookable offence on 68 minutes.
Rangers now have 31 points from 18 games while leaders Celtic, who visit bottom club Dunfermline on Sunday, have 44 from 17.
Hearts climbed above Hibs into fourth place with a 4-1 win over Motherwell and shortly after the match announced on the club's Web site www.heartsfc.co.uk that Pressley had left them.
Pressley had criticised the running of the club and spoke of dressing room unrest.
Hearts claimed it was an "amicable agreement" and Lithuanian manager Valdas Ivanauskas said it had been a difficult few weeks for the club and Pressley.
Elsewhere, Aberdeen beat Falkirk 2-1, Dundee United triumphed 3-1 at home against Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Kilmarnock drew 1-1 at home to St Mirren.
