NEW YORK (Reuters) - Indians left-hander Cliff Lee was picked as the American League's starting pitcher, while Milwaukee Braves' Ben Sheets was handed National League honors for Tuesday's All-Star Game, their managers announced on Monday.
Sheets, on his fourth All-Star team, is 10-3 with a 2.85 earned run average at the break and will become the first Brewers' hurler to start the game.
Lee, 12-2 with a 2.31 ERA, crowned a brilliant comeback in 2008 with his first selection to the All-Star team and his appointment as the American League starter.
Last season, Lee was demoted to Triple-A Buffalo and left off Cleveland's postseason roster after going 5-8 with a 6.29 ERA.
The starters were announced by American League helmsman Terry Francona, manager of the Red Sox, and National League manager Clint Hurdle of the Colorado Rockies, who steered their ball clubs into last year's World Series.
