LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's central bank is lending Iceland's Landsbanki up to 100 million pounds to help it repay Britons with money deposited at the bank, Chancellor Alistair Darling said on Monday.
"The Bank of England is today providing a short-term secured loan of up to 100 million pounds to Landsbanki, to help maximise the returns to UK creditors," Darling told parliamentarians.
Darling said the government was working closely with Icelandic authorities to facilitate claims by UK charities and local authorities on their deposits held at Icelandic banks
