Barbados takes advantage of Chinese technical assistance

By Marc Gibson Barbados is one of thirty-seven countries that have been invited by the People Republic of China to send participants to a two-month training seminar in Information Technology.
The course entitled, Computer Hardware and Software for Developing Countries, falls under the Chinese governments Foreign Aid project and will run from August 1st until September 30th this year.
The purpose of the training course is to enable the participants to master the basic computer hardware and software technology, to know basic software developing procedures, to master computer and network security technology and to know regular Internet operation and website making.
According to an official with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, this course potentially assists with Barbados capacity building capabilities and also makes good on a promise by the Chinese government to provide course and technical assistance to boost local capacity building in the islands human resources sector.
An official from the Chinese Embassys Economic and Commercial Office stated that the Chinese government has made 25 courses yearly available to the Barbadian government.
