MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - A dump truck packed with coffee pickers skidded off a road in the Mexican state of Puebla and plunged into a shallow ravine, killing at least 19 people, a Red Cross official said on Monday.

The truck was carrying between 80 and 85 people to coffee plantations on the mountains of Puebla when the driver lost control on a curve and fell about 15 feet into the ravine.

"The truck ended up upside down. It squashed the people," Red Cross coordinator Baldomero Azua told Reuters.

Road accidents are common on Mexico's narrow, poorly paved interstate roads.
