While taking a trip\ndown memory lane, the imprints of Thanksgiving Day leave a trail of myths,\ntraditions and, finally, have taken the shape of the modern context. History\ntakes us back to the 17th century<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiation of the\nThanksgiving Day celebration was sometime in this century. Certain myths have\nbecome associated with the day, and these cannot seem to be completely\nreleased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They, too, are very\nmuch an integral part of this gala celebration. Above all, Thanksgiving is\nclosely linked with the harvest festival, and this was something very ancient\nin the culture of European history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\ntale that’s the most popular<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of us are\nfamiliar with the Plymouth pilgrim\u2019s\ntale<\/strong> of 1621<\/strong>. Sometime in\nbetween the last week of September and the second week of November, the\npilgrims celebrated their prosperous yield in the new land and, they even\nincluded the Native Americans in the festivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a fabulous\nfeast and those who joined in this harvest festival dined on deer, fowl, fish\nand plums. The celebration continued for three days and included a tribute to\nGod for showering kindness and virtues on the people. Thanksgiving Day was an\nevent to cherish, with new hope, as well as a time to rejoice on the fulfillment\nof a wish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1789,\na turning point in the Thanksgiving Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A different trend came\nup in the celebration of Thanksgiving Day after the grand feast. According to\nthe Sporadic Thanksgiving<\/strong>, the\ncelebration was to be held at a particular event or something that had happened\nand needed to end with homage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the successful\nventure of human beings crossing the barriers of natural calamities, people\nfound it to be very important to pay thanks to God in their happy survival. So,\nThanksgiving was held after a flood or a drought or as a food or harvest\nfestival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the term of George Washington in 1789<\/strong>, it was, for the first time, that November 26<\/strong> was declared as the first national day of celebrating this event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here the President of\nthe United States juxtaposed both the traditional flavor and the modern outlook\nas a cause to celebrate this day in the name of Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First of all, this particular day is a prime time of the harvest season. Prayers and thanks can be earnestly wished to God, along with feasts and parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the modern scenario, this is the time when the new nation and the constitution were formed. Therefore, the double purpose could be celebrated with a single occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nway we celebrate it today<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even the date of November 26 could not seem to get firmly fixed as Thanksgiving Day. During the times of President Lincoln, Thanksgiving Day began to be celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This remained a fixed date until 1939. For seventy-five years, Thanksgiving Day prepared the pre-Christmas mood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But in 1939, a bigger\nchange happened due to circumstantial reasons and, coincidentally, that met\nwith the traditional time and month. The fourth Thursday was transformed into\nthe third Thursday, and President Roosevelts confirmation of this particular\ntime to celebrate Thanksgiving Day is cherished even today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The turkey feast is\npretty organized today, but recipes have undergone a sea of change. Definitely,\nthe mode and mood of celebrating have a different implication all together – to\nlook upon this traditional festival in a modern way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
