Hungary Facts and Country Information...

Hungary is a country which is landlocked and present in central Europe. The country shares several boundaries: Slovakia in the north, Ukraine in the northeast, Austria in the west, Serbia; Slovenia and Croatia in the south and Romania in the southeast.

The country measures 524 kilometers from west to east and 250 kilometers from top to bottom.
Although the country is pretty low lying but there are a few areas with peaks and the highest one is called Kekes standing tall at 1014 meters and it is a part of the Matra Mountains. The lowest point is 77.6 meters below the surface of the sea.

The most important rivers in the country are the Danube and Tisza. The Danube is shared by other countries like Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Serbia, Romania and Croatia. The Croatian border is lined with a small river called the Drava whereas the Slovakian border has four small rivers, namely, the Sio, Ipoly, Szamos and Raba.

Lake Balaton is the largest lake in the country with a surface area of 592 square kilometers. The dominant mountain ranges in the country are the Matra, Bukk, Borzsony, Koszeg and Zemplen mountains. The Tisza is by far the longest river in the country with a length of 596 kilometers.
