How To Pick Wedding Music

No matter what time of year you plan your wedding, chances are the nuptials will include music in some form.

True, you could hand off this action item to any number of people, but the reality is that you could end up with something that is totally inappropriate for the type of ceremony you want.

If you are not sure how to go about picking the right wedding music for your ceremony, here are a few tips to consider.

First, visualize the type of ceremony you want to have. Do you see the service taking place in a house of worship, perhaps with candles framing the wedding party and the minister?

Do you see yourself and your fiancé dressed in beautiful formal attire?

If this is the case, then you have no doubt begun to realize that the music you want for your special day will be selections that will feature flutes, harps, violins, strings, and other instruments that will blend to provide a soothing yet inspiring setting for your ceremony.

Perhaps the image that comes to mind has a completely different setting. The scene is in a beautifully manicured back yard.

A graceful trellis provides the backdrop as you and your fiancé stand together with the minister in front of a small intimate group of friends and family.

Here you may find yourself hearing the sounds of an acoustic guitar as a dear friend offers the gift of song as part of the ceremony.

Once you have an idea of what type of ceremony you want, then it is easier to begin selecting the types of musical compositions that will set the right kind of mood.

At one time, this would also have meant you would need to hire professional musicians. While that is still an option, there is no need to forgo the music you want if the budget will not allow for musicians.

Digitally recorded instrumental selections for just about every genre is available today.

Many houses of worship already have excellent sound systems, so you will need to simply secure the recordings you want to use, and then make sure arrangements are in place for someone to handle queuing up the right song at the right time.

Recorded music is not a big problem if you are doing a home wedding.

While the odds are that you will not have a sound system that is on par with the professional systems found in public buildings, you probably can rent equipment for a reasonable price that will do quite well for the space you are using.

Again, just make sure someone is there who knows how to start and stop the music properly and on time.

The type of music is ultimately up to the bride and groom. If there is a popular song that has special meaning for the two of you, do not hesitate to include it somewhere in the ceremony.

Perhaps both of you sing and want to include a song to one another as part of the ceremony. By all means, do so.

Vocals offered by someone who is dear to both of you should also be included if you desire. The point of the music is to make the event of marriage as happy and as memorable as you can for the two of you. All else is secondary.
