How To Write Winning Speeches

Regardless of the walk of life, you come from, you will find public speaking is an integral part of your professional and social life.

Though not all of us run in our genes the great promises of becoming an enterprising orator, we can become one if we try hard and work in the right direction.

The most important part of public speaking is the speech that you are going to deliver before an audience comprising a group of individuals.

The speech should be rich and substantial in content, and interesting and attractive in its approach.

A speech that you plan to deliver in a seminar, in a business presentation or whatever should be different that of a literary essay. A speech of a public speaker should be written keeping in mind the audience and its characteristics.

Theme

The most crucial part of organizing your speech is hitting upon the right theme. Selection of proper theme is extremely important as the whole speech is founded on it and gives character to the content.

The theme provides the central idea around which revolves the whole address and it reinforces the basic philosophy of the speaker that he tries to get across.

Organizing the whole body

After you have chosen the theme, now think about the focal points of the speech. Now the outline of the speech is ready.

Next, elaborate on each point and while doing so, keep these considerations in your mind: whether the speech is appropriate for the audience;

is it relevant for the occasion or relates well to the area of your expertise or any group that you belong to;

whether the basic points covered by speech are coherent;

if the language or the content maintains the professional standard.

It is always helpful if you break the whole article into a number of meaningful divisions and in the introduction itself let your audience know what are the areas your are going to cover in your speech.

This enhances the anticipation level of the audience, because they know what to expect after each division is covered.

Before moving to the next point try to create a sense of climax in the end so that the audiences hold their breath and anticipate for the next interesting revelation.

This makes your audience pay greater attention to what you are speaking and help them follow your speech better.

Use of humor and quotations

We all know that a humorous touch can make a speech attractive. A funny anecdote, a witty one liner all save your speech from becoming monotonous.

But an inappropriate application of humor can kill the whole spirit of the speech. So be careful about the use of humor and think whether they help to accomplish your point further.

Use of quotation is also common, but a good speech is one where quotations are relevant to the topic and emphasizes on your point.

A wrongly applied quotation only makes the audience confused. The motivational quotes can be used in the beginning, whereas a quotation supporting your viewpoint can be effectively used to summarize the whole speech at the end.

Citing examples from real life and even your personal life also make your audience take greater interest in your speech.

The introduction and the ending

It is extremely crucial how you start and the type of beginning determines how you sail through the whole speech.

You will get only a few second’s time to grab the attention of your audience and your beginning should be interesting enough to stop their minds from wandering off.

The audiences have gathered to learn something from you. So why not stun them with some astounding facts that spark off their curiosity to know more about the topic.

As for example, you are going to speak on road safety before a number of students of middle school.

Start with the statistics how many school children in the USA every year, become the victim of a violation of traffic rules or rash driving or narrate a true story of someone in the same age group of your audience who became a victim of a tragic road accident.

This will make them eager to know what you say about safety rules while on road.

The ending should be dramatic, so that it leaves your audience to think on the matter. The theme of your speech should be embodied in the ending paragraph containing all the key points so far discussed.

An inspirational quote is a good way of finishing your speech; it leaves a mark on the audience’s mind with a permanent resonance.

And as a public speaker, it is the most rewarding moment when you are successful to inspire a group of people with your speech.
