9 Effective Advantage of Finding a Good Mentor for Positive Well-Being

Before going to the advantages of having a good mentor who can coach you for your wellbeing, there is a need to understand who a mentor is and what they do first.

A mentor is someone experienced and willing to guide the less experienced ones (mentee). This guide is provided through the sharing of information in the areas of his career and experiences. He/she does so to motivate or inspire people to reach their set goals.

And before a mentor can be said to be good, he or she must be committed to making their mentees find success and happiness in whatever path they have chosen. His attributes, support, encouragement, belief, and strength can help empower them.

Factually, well-being is quite broad than we think. It covers the aspect of our mental, physical, emotional, intellectual, and social well-being.

When it comes to our wellbeing whether you are a student, an employee or not, there should be no compromise. If there is any aspect of our lives that we need the best services, it is the area of our health and happiness. As the popular saying goes “Health is Life”.

Finding a good mentor for our wellbeing is good and it comes with a lot of advantage as discussed below;

  • Improves your confidence
  • Provides guidance
  • Transforms you to be your best
  • Encourages and support you
  • Provides you with a broader perspective
  • Gives you a listening ear
  • Believes in you
  • Shares experience so that you can learn
  • Inspires you

There are no age restrictions as to who to mentor once the appropriate measure is used. Children, the aged, the physically challenged, teenagers, students, employees, etc. all need good mentoring to improve their overall well-being.

  1. Improves your confidence

A good mentor is one who helps his mentee to build up their confidence. It extends to all aspect of their well-being that lacks it.

Most times people do not have confidence in what they have limitations in. For instance, someone who doesn’t have a good or stable mental well-being lacks confidence in some of his actions.

This is because such a person may not be able to express himself in terms of his emotions, as opposed to one who has good mental wellbeing.

Building up someone’s confidence may not necessarily be easy. It comes with its task, but a good mentor will know how to give the confidence pill to the mentee. Additionally, he will also make him/her take it as everyone will be happy in the end seeing a positive result.

The shared stories and life experiences can serve as a tool for building someone’s confidence. In some cases, some confidence quotes might help.

Such as the one quoted by Vincent van Gogh which says “If you hear a voice within that say ‘you cannot paint’, then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced”.

  1. Provides guidance

Among the major works of a good mentor is to provide guidance to lead you rightfully. So, when you find someone who is good at that, then it’s a great advantage.

Good mentors serve as a guide unto the feet of the mentee, leading, directing slowing and steady towards the rightful part.

For example, there are those who may intend losing weight but haven’t seemed to find the answers to their questions, or rather confused at that which may suit them.

In this case, a good mentor should be able to provide guidance on what to do, and even how to do it. Instead of providing you with information on the necessary exercise or diet only, he can proceed further to help create a workable fitness plan for you.

He will also be in check to monitor your progress.

  1. Transforms you to be your best

A good mentor nurtures his or her mentee, changing them positively from what they were to where they want to be, through motivational words, positive thoughts, and inspirations.

Every mento wishes that his/her mentee become better in their health and wellness concerns.  He or she will provide you with the essential tool(s) you need to improve.

As a result, if along the path of mentoring, you are gradually transforming to become better in terms of success and knowledge, then sharing your success with your mentor will make him happy. To him, it’s a great plus.

  1. Encourages and supports you

When we show encouragement and support to those that need it, it greatly shows we care. No matter how little the support might seem, it will go a long way in making the life of the person better than it was.

For the mentee, some situations are quite challenging that may seem very difficult to achieve no matter how hard you try. This can relate to matters that concern the mental, emotional and physical wellness.

At a point like this, we need a good mentor or coach that can provide you with the right support and encouragement. You need this to keep moving and support you when you think you have failed.

Know that a good mentor is always there for you, even when your friends aren’t.

  1. Provides you with a broader perspective

There is progress when new things are learned. In the area where it concerns our wellbeing, it is essential we broaden our minds with teachings and practices that will benefit us greatly.

Sometimes, you may think that you don’t need a mentor for the management of your wellbeing especially when everything seems have fallen into the right place.

Surprisingly, when you do, you will be amazed at what his ideas and advice can do for your health and wellness, and that also is an added knowledge to the ones you previously had.

  1. Gives you a listening ear

Being a mentor is not all about talking to the mentees. There is a need to provide the opportunity to listen to those you are mentoring.

A mentor is said to be good when he knows when to listen and when to speak. It may not speak good of him if he is quick to speak and yet unable to listen and understand his mentee.

Having a listening ear is one of the paramount things to do as a mentor. Certainly, it creates a good mentor-mentee relationship and a platform for improvement in terms of learning.

  1. Believes in you

Most times, we are not sure what or who to believe in when it comes to the area of wellness. We try to belittle ourselves not knowing what we can do.

Such as in the case of someone who wants to fight depression, and has tried in many ways but to no avail, he or she may be skeptical about getting another treatment or therapy.

However, a good mentor will always believe in you even when you don’t believe in yourself. His trust in you can make you realized you can overcome your fears, and be abetter version of yourself.

On the other hand, it gives you hope and strength to fight whatever challenges you might be facing.

  1. Shares experience so that you can learn

Experience, they say, it’s the great teacher. When experiences relating to what we are passing through are shared, it gives us the feeling that we are not alone.

A good mentor shares his experience as relating to the issue on ground, real times stories so that you can learn from other people’s experiences, and other helpful insights.

This shared experience provides the mentee with a platform to learn, retrace their steps and strives to be better. Though, stories shared shouldn’t criticize and should be appropriate for the issue on the ground to help those being mentored.

A good mentor will tell his mentee what he did but in most cases, he won’t tell them what to do so that they can be responsible for their actions.

  1. Inspires you

Someone who inspires you motivates you to keep going. In this way, you feel inspired even when it seems there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

Yet he tries to make you better, through some motivational talks, inspirational quotes, and others. He does this because he wants you to be better. Again, to take positive actions and fight that fear that keeps holding you back.

There are certain challenging situations that might make you feel that you need mentoring or a coach. Source for a good one to help free you so that you can find happiness again.

Yes, sometimes we are not alone and such situations aren’t a good one either as they can lead to depression, loneliness, feelings of bad or negative emotions. So when it happens, it’s time to find that someone that can create a positive effect on your health.
