If you are a big fan of horror movies, then you surely know at least a few haunted houses.

There are two kinds of haunted houses. The first kind is the ones set up for people to go inside.

These are not really haunted, but through decorations, people wearing deceiving clothing, and specialized sound effects, can really give you a scare on Halloween.

The other kind is the traditional haunted house. You know, the one in the town that gives you chills as you walk by.

Most towns and even cities have places that are rumored to be haunted. However, there are some places that have legends behind them.

Tales that are so odd and eccentric that they leave people wondering if they are haunted. The following is a list of a few of these places. If you decide to visit any of them, make sure you are prepared!

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium is not really a haunted house, per se, but it is one of the places in the United States that is believed to have the most paranormal activity.

Located in Louisville, KY, this former facility has quite a reputation for hauntings!

Hickory Hill, an old slave house in Equality, Illinois, is another place that is rumored to be haunted.

Many people have visited this old structure over the years and have reported seeing apparitions, hearing unexplained noises, and rapid drops in temperature.

The Lemp Mansion, haunting away in St. Louis, is considered one of the most haunted places in America.

William Lemp, founder of Lemp brewing suffered a series of personal tragedies. Finally, having enough of this world, he took a pistol and shot himself in his mansion. It is rumored that his ghost still haunts the premises.

Anne Pardee Winchester, after suffering the death of her child and husband, was sent out west by a medium.

She believed that her husband’s ghost would guide her to happiness. When she got to Santa Clara, she used her vast fortune to acquire a six-room house that was being built.

She decided to become the architect for her construction and just before the great Earthquake in 1906, the house had an estimated 160 rooms!

Each day she would design a new area to be built and had workers building 24 hours a day, seven days a week!

There have been reports of strange noises and ghostly activity over the years. The reality is that no one knows how many rooms are actually there!

In south-western Iowa there is a ramshackle home where a number of ax murders took place. In 1912 a number of horrific murders were committed.

The result ghost creation it would seem. Due to the brutality of the murders many people believe that ghosts haunt the house.

In fact, many ghost hunters have researched the house and historians are still trying to solve these unsolved murders.

There are plenty more haunted places across the United States and throughout the rest of the world.

If you are planning to stop by and take a visit, be ready for anything. You never know when you might see something from beyond the world.
