Choosing The Perfect Women’s Coat For You

Women’s coats are as much a fashion statement as the clothes you wear or the shoes that go with them.

Consider the style and make of the coat you want to purchase before actually buying it. Your choice of coat should flatter your figure no matter what size you are.

Plus size women need not fear that coats will make them look even bigger if they get the right one for their body type.

Try on different styles and looks as much as you can because your coat will be a part of your wardrobe for a long time.

Since they can be expensive, you want to get the most out of it and not stash it in the closet never to be used again.

The Right Coat for Your Body Type

When choosing coats, consider the way it falls on your body. Wear something that you would typically wear with the coat so you will have an idea of how it looks once you purchase it.

Since coats are supposed to protect your clothes from the elements of nature, get something that’s not too tight that it will wrinkle your clothes, or too big that you look like a coat hanger.

If you are a little on the heavy side, consider getting coats that are in dark colors such as blue, black or grey.

If you want to have prints on them, get one with vertical lines as these will give the illusion of being thinner than your actual size.

However, your safest bet is to go with solid colors since prints will draw attention more.

Do not go for the bulky types where there is a thick lining as these will not only be heavy for you to wear, they will also make you look heavier.

For hot weather, get something with a thin material as much as possible. A rainproof fabric is good for wet weather.

Consider the length as well, as short ones have the tendency to emphasize your hips, and long ones can engulf you if you have a small frame.

Different Coats, Different Seasons

There are coats for each season because using one through all the different seasons can make you uncomfortable too cold for winter and too hot for summer.

When keeping your coat for next season, make sure that this is clean and cleaned according to instructions.  You could ruin the fabric and make it look frumpy if you don’t care for it the right way.

Place it in plastic and seal it before keeping it in the closet to protect it from molds and mildew.

There are coats that can be hand or machine washed, and there are those that need to be taken to the dry cleaners, so consider these as well before purchasing.

If you are an animal advocate and you don’t like fur, consider getting one with faux fur so you can still have the look that you want without compromising your beliefs.

Remember that a coat is a complementary addition to your wardrobe, so make sure you look good in it no matter what you’re wearing underneath.
