America measures up to 9.85 million kilometres square and is the third largest country as far as land area is concerned. USA and Canada share their land border to the north and with Mexico to the south. The Pacific Ocean lies to the west, whereas the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico lie towards the east and southeast respectively.
Alaska being the top most state on the map is
separated from the rest of the states by Canada. The
Atlantic face of the country drives inward and has
two very important ranges called the Piedmont and
Appalachians.
Further inland is where people can find the fourth
largest river system called the Mississippi- Missouri
River. The Rockies are another mountain range which
encircles the deserts of Mojave and Chihuahua.
The highest point of the country can be found in the
form Mount McKinley in Alaska and the lowest point is
just 130 kilometres away which is the state of
California.
The Great Lakes are a system of 5 lakes which link the
Atlantic Ocean via the St. Lawrence River. The lakes
are: Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Superior, Lake
Ontario and Lake Erie. Together they form the largest
group of freshwater lakes in the world.
